Self-discharge testing: the "invisible guardian" of battery safety. 

Battery self-discharge during storage (unconnected to a load) due to internal chemical reactions or physical defects is a key cause of capacity decay and safety risks like thermal runaway. It can lead to economic losses from capacity drops and battery scrapping. The NEWARE self-discharge tester precisely quantifies internal micro - current losses in batteries.

Accurate self-discharge current/voltage measurement. 

Using the constant-potential method, it directly measures micro-ampere (μA)-level self-discharge currents or voltage decay.

Fast screening of sub-standard batteries . 

In battery manufacturing, batteries with abnormal self-discharge rates may have impurities (e.g., local short-circuits from electrode impurities) or uneven electrolyte causing internal micro-short-circuits. The self-discharge tester can detect these in minutes to several hours (traditional ΔOCV methods take weeks), effectively separating "suspect batteries" with high self-discharge to prevent them from entering the market.

Cost optimization Inventory cycles are shortened. 

Test time is reduced from weeks to hours, lowering work-in-process warehousing costs. Rapid detection of problematic batteries allows timely problem-solving in production, reducing material loss.


Redefining Self-discharge testing efficiency. 

Traditional self-discharge testing measures ΔOCV (periodic open-circuit voltage testing) to determine battery self-discharge characteristics. This requires long-term storage due to battery aging, taking weeks. The self-discharge tester uses the constant-voltage method. It applies a stable voltage equal to the battery's OCV and uses a closed - loop system to offset self-discharge current. By directly measuring the compensation current needed to maintain the voltage, this potentiostatic method eliminates the long-term storage requirement of the traditional OCV method (ΔOCV), reducing test time from weeks to hours.

Temperature changes can affect battery OCV and performance. The NEWARE self-discharge tester integrates the testing host with a constant-temperature system, eliminating temperature-related test impacts and the wiring complexity and data coordination errors of external temperature chambers.
